Tom Carpenter has spent almost two decades developing and advocating complex policy in Washington. Beginning as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill and now as a lobbyist, Tom’s experience advising Members of Congress and Senior Executives provides clients with an insider’s perspective and the skill set of a seasoned advocate. Tom’s strong ties to Members of the House Financial Services and Senate Banking Committees, along with House and Senate Conservatives, allows him to leverage political and policy expertise to deliver strategic counsel, direct lobbying and coalition management to clients of all shapes and sizes.
Tom’s core policy practice areas include financial services, financial technology, and healthcare. In addition, Tom has developed a distinct practice specializing in the development, leadership and representation of policy coalitions, professional organizations and trade associations. With many issue campaigns now under his belt, Tom understands the unique needs of clients who must answer to member interests and expectations rather than just shareholders. In this capacity, Tom has represented several trade associations and coalitions in Washington, and has also served as Government Affairs Counsel to the Financial Data Exchange (FDX), Executive Director of the Coalition for Regenerative Stem Cell Medicine (CRSCM), Executive Director of the Hydrogen Advisory Council and as a policy counsel to the Postal Reform in the Public Interest coalition.
Prior to joining Republic, Tom was a Senior Vice President & Managing Director at Wexler|Walker, a boutique lobbying firm. And before becoming a lobbyist, Tom served as a Legislative Assistant in the office of Former Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO), advising Akin on telecommunications, international relations, and social policy directives.
As a native Southerner, Tom grew up in South Carolina and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee where he received a degree in Communications. Tom lives on Capitol Hill in Washington DC with his wife and three children.
