Leston Welsh is head of Business Segments for Prudential Group Insurance, a business unit of Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE:PRU). In this role, he is responsible for product development, underwriting, business insights and various customer solutions to meet the needs of clients, including large and medium-sized companies, banks and associations.

Welsh joined Prudential in May 2018, leading the Disability Products and Services business segment. In 2019, he assumed responsibility for the overall financial results of Group Insurance’s core product segments, which include the Health & Productivity Analytics and Consulting Practice (HPAC) teams and the Office of Servicemembers Group Life Insurance program. 

Prior to Prudential, Welsh was senior vice president and chief operating officer of Unum’s dental/vision portfolio, with accountability for technology, claims, call center, enrollment, billing, implementation, account management and compliance. During his tenure at Unum, Welsh was also vice president, operations and market development for the individual disability insurance portfolio. Previously, Welsh held roles at Sun Life Financial, including vice president-Voluntary, vice president-Product Management and vice president- Individual Life profitability management. 

Welsh holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the City University of New York’s Baruch College and is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries. He currently serves as a director of Prosperity Now, an organization that helps people, especially people of color and those of limited incomes, achieve financial security, stability, and ultimately, prosperity. He has also volunteered with the Society of Actuaries and has served on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester, Mass., and Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Welsh resides in Boston with his wife and children.
