How It Works

Start Measuring Financial Health

The FinHealth Score Toolkit is a simple, easy-to-use resource that provides a snapshot of a household’s financial health. The latest FinHealth Score toolkit features updates to several survey questions to improve accuracy, clarity, and interpretability for both respondents and Score users.
Learn more about our recent updates >

Step 1:

Survey Guide

Ask households eight straightforward questions aligned with the Financial Health Network’s indicators of financial health: Spend, Save, Borrow, and Plan and Protect.

Step 2:

Scoring Logic

Use the survey responses to calculate one overall FinHealth Score and four subscores: Save, Spend, Borrow, and Plan and Protect. These results help determine whether the household is Financially Healthy, Coping, or Vulnerable.

Step 3:

Benchmarks

See how the financial health of your respondents stack up with a diverse and nationally representative sample of U.S. households. Share benchmarks by age, income, location, or other key demographics to help respondents understand how they compare with their peers.
