At the Financial Health Network, our mission is to improve financial health for all — a goal that requires leadership from those who understand not only how the financial system works, but how it can work better for people. I’m delighted to share that Michael Hsu, former Acting Comptroller of the Currency, has joined the Financial Health Network’s Board of Directors.
Michael has been a valued thought partner to our organization for years. He first joined us on the EMERGE stage in 2022 to discuss how regulators can help strengthen household financial resilience, and returned in 2024 to deliver a keynote address on “Financial Health Vital Signs,” where he challenged industry leaders to measure success not only by profits, but by the financial well-being of their customers. His remarks have consistently underscored a message that is central to our work — that the health of the financial system depends on the health of the people it serves.
“I am honored and thrilled to be joining the Financial Health Network’s Board of Directors,” said Michael. “For years FHN’s work inspired and challenged me to think more deeply and innovatively about financial inclusion and consumer protection. I am excited to be able to contribute now as a Board member, especially as technologies, like AI, create new opportunities and risks to financial health for all.”

Michael J. Hsu
Former Acting Comptroller of the Currency
At the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency from 2021 to 2025, Michael guided the agency through a period of significant change, advancing initiatives that strengthened fairness, transparency, and innovation across the banking system. He has long advocated for financial institutions to center trust, stability, and inclusion in their business models — priorities that align closely with the Financial Health Network’s mission and our efforts to embed financial health measurement and accountability across the industry.
Beyond his regulatory leadership, Michael has emerged as a thoughtful voice on the future of technology and finance. Through his writing, he regularly explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, risk, and responsibility, urging leaders to balance innovation with actionability and human judgment. His insights on AI’s implications for trust, oversight, and financial inclusion mirror many of the questions we are exploring on the responsible use of future technologies.
Michael joins our board of distinguished leaders who help guide Financial Health Network’s vision and ensure that the organization remains an independent, trusted resource for advancing financial health for all. His experience — bridging regulation, innovation, and consumer well-being — will deepen our ability to connect industry practice with public purpose.
As we continue to expand our work on FinHealth Standards, elevate consumer voices, and convene partners across sectors, Michael’s perspective will help us navigate a rapidly changing financial landscape while staying grounded in what matters most: people’s lives and financial confidence.
Please join me in welcoming Michael Hsu to the Financial Health Network Board of Directors. We’re honored to have his insight and partnership as we shape the next chapter of financial health leadership.

As a doctor’s son, Michael Hsu sees many parallels between the financial health movement and the goals of medicine: “The point is not to administer medicine. The point is to have healthy patients so that they can go about their lives.” He applies that perspective daily in his work as Acting Comptroller of the Currency.
