Associate, Research Financial Health Network
shammerslough@finhealthnetwork.org

As an Associate on the Research team, Shira supports a variety of research projects that advance the Financial Health Network’s mission. The opportunity to conduct innovative research that promotes financial inclusion and stability for historically disenfranchised individuals and communities drew her to the organization. Now she helps design qualitative and quantitative research, collects and analyzes data, presents outcomes to stakeholders, and assists in developing research-focused proposals and grant applications.

Prior to joining the Financial Health Network, she was an Assistant Program Evaluator at Emergence Collective, where she consulted with social sector and nonprofit clients to improve grantmaking processes, strategic decision-making, and cross-sector collaboration on high-level social impact initiatives. She was also previously a Researcher at the University of Michigan Department of Sociology. Through leading a comprehensive academic literature review of whiteness and racialization in American history, she helped co-develop a novel sociological theory for future publication.

Shira holds a Master of Social Work, with a concentration in Program Evaluation and Applied Research, from the University of Michigan School of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Reed College.
