Former Acting Comptroller of the Currency Office of the Comptroller of the Currency

Michael J. Hsu served as Acting Comptroller of the Currency from May 10, 2021, to February 10, 2025. As Acting Comptroller of the Currency, Michael was the administrator of the federal banking system and Chief Executive Officer of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). Today, he is an active advisor and speaker on a myriad of topics on regulation and artificial intelligence. A longtime supporter of the Financial Health Network, Michael has spoken on the EMERGE stage several times.

Before leading the OCC, Michael served as Associate Director in the Division of Supervision and Regulation at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. In that role, he oversaw the Large Institution Supervision Coordinating Committee program, which has responsibility for supervising the global systemically important banking companies operating in the United States.

His career has also included serving as a Financial Sector Expert at the International Monetary Fund, Financial Economist at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and Financial Economist at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Mr. Hsu holds a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, a master’s in Finance from George Washington University, and a JD from New York University School of Law.
